Hi Warriors! I hope you are well and that the holiday season is bringing all the joy! I’ve got another round up of things that have caught my eye over the last few months. And, in the vein of love, I’d like to post a little holiday gratitude list.
So, diving right in: The crossover concept is one of the most misunderstood aspects of exercise physiology. Even by trainers. Basically, to burn fat during exercise, your intensity needs to be low enough that the body has time to mobilize and break down the really large fat molecules. Oh, and you need oxygen to do this. Without oxygen or moderate enough intensities, your body needs to utilize glucose, which it can break down faster. Since many of you will be thinking about exercise plans for the new year, this article has some great food for thought on that topic.
And also in line with thinking about movement, walking. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times. Walking is one of the absolute best types of movement/physical activity/exercise you can do if you are physically able. For both Physical and Mental Health. In case you don’t believe me, gift one and gift two, wrapped up especially for you!
Warriors, you know I’m all about that consistency. I will take a B or B- effort seven days a week over an A effort twice a week always. And there are things that should have priority when it comes to consistency and effort. So if you are confused or overwhelmed about where to start, check this out.
As we get ready to close out 2021, I want to share with you a few things that I am especially grateful for this year.
I am thankful for my family. My parents and my husband have been especially understanding and helpful as I’ve navigated anxiety in a more extreme manifestation this year. I have also loved spending quality time with my nieces and nephew after a long COVID necessary break.
I am appreciative of my privilege. Because of where I live and my husband’s job, I have access to the physical and mental health care, including therapy and medication, that I needed this year.
I am grateful for my neighbors. We live in a town that neither my husband or I grew up in and that sometimes makes it tough to navigate. But our neighborhood is amazing. Tons of young kids that my son can play with and a group of wonderful people who really do look out for each other.
I am thankful for teaching in person again. Yes, there are challenges to teaching activity based courses while wearing masks, but absolutely nothing compares to the energy that happens when you are face to face with your students.
As is usual this time of year, I will be taking the next several weeks to do some behind the scenes work here on MMW, and to enjoy time with my family and friends this holiday season.
Thank you, Warrior, for being here this year and I look forward to seeing you for an amazing 2022! Be well!
