Hello Warriors, hope you are well! It seems that summer is upon us. Schools are out and warmer weather is checking in. And for those of you who just dusted off the grill a few weeks ago, I’ve got a summer staple recipe for you today!
My family lives in Pennsylvania, so we don’t have traditional grilling weather year round. But we are also the ones in the neighborhood that pull out the grill on that first (usually random) warm day in March and refuse to put it away until at least Halloween. This year we accidentally set our grill on fire the first time we used it. Luckily, it happened after we had gotten everything off and the grill was away from the house. So, nothing that a few blasts from the fire extinguisher couldn’t fix. Grill safely people!
But what is better for grilling than burgers? There are few foods that seem to please just about everybody (sorry vegetarians). Change up the rolls, toppings, cheese and you’ve got an entirely different meal with the leftovers. Switch up the meat for variety. Swap out any one of 1000 side dishes for picky eaters. Burgers are yummy and versatile.
I call this the best burger recipe because it lends itself to grilling so well. The burgers always come out perfectly cooked and juicy. The real trick is to create a bit of an indent in the center of the meat patties and don’t squish them down once they are on the grill. It was juice drippage from these burgers that caused the infamous PA Primavera Grill Fire of 2022 actually.
My family enjoys this recipe using ground beef, turkey, or chicken. I have not personally tried it with ground pork or something like ground bison, but my guess is it would work equally well. A couple of our favorite combos include: beef with cheddar, pickles, ketchup, and mustard; turkey with roasted red peppers and Harvarti with dill; and chicken with BBQ sauce and grilled pineapple.
But again, this recipe makes a flavorful but basic burger, so play around! How about a taco burger with salsa, avocado, sour cream and wrapped in a tortilla? Or a turkey breakfast burger on an everything bagel with a fried egg? Mini chicken sliders with mozzarella and pizza sauce for dunking? And here are some suggestions if you need ideas for side dishes.
Recipe
1 pound ground meat
1/3 cup panko bread crumbs
2 Tbsp Worcesteshire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp parsley
Mix all ingredients in a large bowl. Divide into six equal portions and form into round patties, creating a small indentation in the middle. Grill until preferred doneness. Serve as desired.
Happy Summer and grill safely Warriors!
