Hello Warriors! If you are in the US, I hope that you enjoyed your three day weekend and the unofficial kick off to summer. I’ve got some links and loves for you. Feels like forever since I’ve done one of these wrap ups, but as usual, nothing is sponsored. Just me, sharing some nerdy goodness with you.
In the last several years there has been a lot of talk about representation in the media. I am totally on board with that and it is about time that Hollywood and ad executives wise up. In that same vein, I think representation in the fitness/wellness industries needs to step up. Like, A LOT. Here’s an article I ran across highlighting some great individuals trailblazing in that area. Of course, there are tons more out there and if you have any you like, share them in the comments!
Phys Ed classes were the bane of a lot of our existence. Beyond the abject bullying that many of us endured were the horrifying things we were expected to participate in. We all remember the Presidential Physical Fitness Assessment with *fondness.* And remind me to tell you the stories of endless bowling using old Pringles cans and dodgeballs from my middle school years. This article has some interesting thoughts about the divergence of physical activity in US kids versus adults.
For years, the advice for being able to “move better” has been to stretch. And while stretching is certainly important, especially through the aging process, the recommendations are shifting. Even in physical therapy. Check out this article for more info.
Two weeks ago, I posted an article about how the self care industry feels the need to fix things via purchases. This lovely mental health pro tackles that idea, as well as how shame ties into things, in this video.
Lately, I have been loving having the windows open. Something about fresh air in the house after it being closed up all winter. The Germans are really on to something.
My son received a ninja course for the holidays. You know the kind where you stretch a slack line between two trees and then hang a bunch of obstacles from it? The neighborhood kiddos have been loving this thing and it’s been fun to watch them figure out the obstacles after I change them around.
After COVID restrictions and then a lot of traveling and bigger vacations to make up for it, I’m looking forward to a relaxed summer. We’ve got some day trips or smaller things planned, but as a family we are just looking to enjoy each other’s company with the hullabaloo for a bit.
Until next time, be well friends!
