Hey wellness warriors! I’m coming at you today with the latest installment of things that I am loving or have caught my eye in the past several months. As always nothing is sponsored, just my own enthusiasm for sharing!
I have written ad nauseum about gratitude practices, but I feel the need to give it another plug. This article describes some unique ways to practice gratitude if a journal isn’t quite your thing. And this article offers more proof that a regular practice in gratitude may actual rewire our brains. Long story short, if you haven’t said thank you (even to yourself) in a bit, you probably should.
Given what I do and the number of questions I field on a weekly basis about weight loss, this article caught my eye. Nutrition science is imperfect at best and while I don’t think it is possible to find or blame one culprit for this phenomenon, it is definitely something we should be talking about.
Staying with the weight loss theme, I have always been skeptical of The Biggest Loser. Again, doing what I do, I have never felt it is safe to coach such quick and drastic fat loss. And promoting it to a wide audience might be even more dangerous. This article offers a criticism of the show’s “new format” that I believe should be taken seriously.
I have an interesting relationship with supplements. Just as with weight loss, I answer a lot of questions about these, but I am generally restrained in consumption for my own purposes. This article explores some of the relationships between the all-or-none thinking often associated with supplements of any kind.
I have mentioned how much I enjoyed the exercise culture in Germany last year, but I have to be honest… I missed my weights. Don’t misunderstand, I took therabands with me so that I could augment body weight strength training, but now that I am home with easier access to weights, I am really enjoying them again.
And along those lines, I am very much enjoying my return to my other part time job: teaching. I will never be sad that I took 6 months to move to another country, but I was a full time stay at home mom and getting back to work has been so nice. And not just for the working aspect, for the one-on-one exercise and nutrition conversations I often have with my students.
Since we are talking about returning to habits, I have started a new one that I am really enjoying. I was struggling to make time for meditation until I decided to use the 9 minutes between when I hit snooze on the alarm and when the alarm went off again for it. Game changer. This is actually a bit longer than I typically meditate, but it is such an easy, gentle way to start the day. And I can check something off my list before I even get out of bed.
Until next time, be well friends!
