Whoa, where did the first bit of 2022 go? Maybe it’s because the first part of the year is chock full of birthdays and holidays for our family. Maybe it’s because we juggled a lot of in and virtual with school (for all three of us) this year. Either way, I’m glad to be staring at the (hopeful) beginning of spring. And I’ve got my semi-regular round up of stuff that has caught my eye!
As usual, there is nothing sponsored here. Just some resources that I want to pass on as well as some ramblings about what I am currently finding awesome.
If you have been around my little corner of the web for very long (welcome, by the way, if you haven’t) you’ll know my love for strength training. It offers so many more benefits than just appearance and if you want corroboration, check this out!
And the other exercise that I love love love? Walking. I think I have article links for strength training and walking benefits in almost every one of these. But, that’s my point. Two of the most accessible exercises in terms of time, equipment, and ability offer some of the most amazing benefits. Walking benefits more than just your cardiovascular system.
Self care. An increasingly loaded term, that while necessary for each of us, has started to become synonymous with consumerism and vanity. Here’s an article that takes a deeper dive into those ideas and suggests that self care might actually be more about the give and take of our everyday lives and how we manage it.
An interesting new view on the science of obesity. While the energy balance equation makes sense from a law of the universe perspective (I’ve even written about it several times), there is something to be said about how genes may affect obesity. And the environment’s influence on said genetic disposition.
I don’t often pimp clothing and the like around here, but I have to tell you… I picked up a gray hooded sweater from Target awhile back (see lead photo) and I have been living in it all winter. It is warm and so soft. Soft enough that my kiddo commented on it.
I’ve been loving hearing the birds chirping in the morning. Yes, they wake me up too early, but it also means spring is coming. And anything that means there is an end in sight to cold and snow is a good thing in my book.
March holds a special place in my heart, not just because it usually means the snow and cold of winter is behind us, but because it is my blog-iversary. This year, Mental Muscle Wellness turned four. It’s been such a weird and wonderful experiment and I’ve got some big plans for the upcoming year too!
And, to bookend this post, strength training. I took I hiatus from strength work of just about every kind in 2021 to focus on getting a handle on some new manifestations of anxiety. I kept up with walking and yoga because my body (and mind) seemed to respond well. But I started adding strength training back in with the new year and it has been so wonderful to really get back to connecting with my abilities again.
Until next time, be well friends!
